I am delighted to invite you to the group exhibition “Popstalgie“. On display are works by Aaron Vidal and Holger Zimmermann, who both deal with the 50s and 60s in their paintings. In their works, the artists play with a nostalgic view of the world and reproduce it in a new form.
In Aaron Vidals paintings, cars from the 50s and 60s appear as the predominant motif. The cars are paired with people from this period, both celebrities, such as the Kennedys, and beautiful women and men who reflect the zeitgeist of those years. His works are rich in contrast and have a clear formal language.
Holger Zimmermann finds the inspiration for his works in magazines and publications from the 50s and 60s. Both people and objects appear in equal measure in his paintings. Characteristic of his works on handmade paper are the dissolved contours and the reduced colors.
The different working methods of the two artists have a similar effect on the viewer: they evoke memories and unrecognized longings. A popstalgia emerges.
