Holger Zimmermann deals with the subject of the past in his art. Whether in collage form, photography or painting, he manages to look at the past from a different perspective.

His photographs are moments and impressions of abandoned places. When visiting ruins, dilapidated swimming pools and the like, Holger Zimmermann tries to capture the mood of these places. The morbid character of the buildings, the decay and the transience become clear in his photographs. The question arises as to why these impressive places were left to their fate…?

The morbid is reflected in his painting. The artist takes illustrations from the 50s and 60s out of their context and reproduces them in an alienated way. At first glance, the pictures appear cheerful and idyllic. On closer inspection, the blurred and shadowy figures reveal inconsistencies that point to their decay. In his P.U.C. series, the decay becomes even more visible. The face, the person, the body can still be recognized, but through the use of strong colours and structure, this template is also exposed to destruction, decay and oblivion.
